We all know Marvel likes to plan things out a few years (or decades) in advance, and a new rumor seems to indicate they already have a short list for Captain Marvel — and here’s who is (allegedly) at the top of it.
Heroic Hollywood reports Marvel is very high on Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) to take the starring role as Carol Danvers in the upcoming superhero flick. It’s important to note: This is currently qualified as a take-with-a-grain-of-salt rumor, as even the original report notes they’re not even sure contact has been made by Marvel. But it’s apparently something floating around in the ether, so it certainly qualifies as an interesting rumor.
Ferguson is a buzzy name, fresh off her excellent performance in Rogue Nation, and Marvel has a penchant for roping in up-and-coming talent. She was also on the short list for the female role in Gambit, but ultimately passed to join Emily Blunt in The Girl on the Train. The train of thought (no pun intended) is she might not have wanted to take a role in Fox’s sandbox with a legit shot at the MCU on the table. Again, relatively thin, but it’s still another piece of the puzzle.
Whoever Marvel signs on for this role, they have to knock it out of the park. Fans have waited a long time for a Captain Marvel film, and even longer for a legit female-led superhero flick, so there’s a ton of pressure on Marvel to get this right. Do you think Ferguson is the right option?
