Nintendo has been quiet regarding its online plans for their newest game platform, Switch. Originally set for a Fall 2017 release with an early access trial period, in March the debut has now been pushed to an undetermined date in 2018. While the delay will no doubt dampen the spirits of those looking forward to playing online, they can find solace in the fact that the price appears to be set for only $20 a year, $8 for a three month subscription, or $4 a month.
Features like voice chat lobbies and friends lists will not be available through the Switch itself, but rather through a smartphone app which should be released this summer. Nintendo stated “Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games─all from your smart device. A free, limited version of this app will be available for download in summer 2017.”
